TRACKING

CLASSES

Dogs have an amazing sense of smell - up to 100,000 times stronger than humans! That’s why dogs are often used to find lost people and animals, search for disaster victims, detect drugs, explosives and now even diseases such as cancer and oncoming seizures.   Tracking is a canine sport that uses the dog’s natural scenting ability to recognize and follow an odor.  In tracking your dog is in charge, because she is the expert, using her powerful olfaction system to find and follow the track.  It is a great outdoor sport with your dog, allowing you to spend time bonding when working tracks, providing fun and pleasure training, interacting, and learning the language of scent with your dog.

Intro to Tracking

Begin your tracking adventure with an introduction to short tracks and article indication taught by a professional canine tracking law enforcement officer.  Our intro class will give you the basics in what tracking is, how to train your dog to give you an indication and work on short tracks to build your dog's drive and begin your understanding in the language of canine tracking.

Locations will change each week to give your dog new sites to build their tracking skills and have fun working new places.

Equipment required: 20-foot leash/line, high-value reward (treats or toy), an article (sock, glove, wallet, etc.), water - it's important to keep your dog's olfaction system moist!  A tracking harness is recommended, one that crosses the chest and had a ring on the top back.

Currently, we are not offering any Intro To Tracking Classes.

Intermediate Tracking

Continue building your tracking skills and teamwork as well more work as needed on article indication in our Intermediate Tracking class.  Our Intermediate class builds off the skills learned in the Intro to Tracking class with longer tracks, more complicate turns and work on starting techniques, helping to prepare you for future competition or just to have fun with your dog outdoors in the fresh air.
